!ALERT! Massive Overhaul, Destruction & Obliteration
“Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?”
— Mary Oliver, Poet
The Wu Xu (Yang Earth Dog) Month runs from October 8 – November 7, marking the final Autumn “checkpoint” month — our annual period for processing, assessment and clean-up. This year, however, this process takes on an extraordinary intensity, powered by the continuity of the 2026/27 twin Fire years.
The Earth Dog arrives to combust through the destructive and transformative Fire Horse annual energies, demanding an intense process of obliteration, change and release. This will feel uncomfortable. Pain, disruption and destruction can become necessary forces when what has outlived its purpose can no longer be carried forward.
But how do we know what needs to die, change or be released?
We look to the scorecard revealed by September — our peak “harvest” month. What is no longer working? What energy has overstayed its welcome? What patterns, commitments, relationships or structures have become liabilities rather than foundations? Equally important, what has worked and produced results? These are the elements to retain, refine and strengthen further.
“The only way out is through.”
— Robert Frost, Poet
October therefore becomes an essential clearing phase — a deliberate process of making space. What remains after this incineration determines the quality of the clean slate we carry into the next level of 2027’s Ding Wei Fire Goat from November onwards.
This cycle of destruction and renewal is further emphasised by the extraordinary retrograde cycles unfolding now within the twin Fire years. Venus Retrograde begins October 3, preceding the start of the Earth Dog month and initiating a process that places particular emphasis on October, while extending across the following two months. Together with the movement of the Sun and the subsequent Mercury Retrograde later this month, this creates a powerful period for revelation, reassessment and reprocessing.
Venus Retrograde is particularly significant within the September–October energetic progression because it connects to the reprocessing of Metal. Within the Five Element cycle, Metal represents the final or derived expression of what has already been manifested through Earth — our tools, processed information, accumulated wisdom, lessons and distilled experience. When this energy has been suitably processed, the cycle is able to begin anew productively.
Mercury Retrograde from Oct 24 adds another layer of revelation. Similarly occurring through the depths of the peak Dog month, its energy takes the process inward, beneath the obvious and into what has remained hidden. Together, these retrograde cycles deepen the opportunity for renewal at precisely the moment we need to clear the way before the greater challenges and intensity of the full Ding Wei Fire Goat energy arrive.
October therefore asks for something that is not always easy: the willingness to confront reality without attachment.
“You do not have to be fearless. Doing it afraid is just as brave.”
— Glennon Doyle, Author and Activist
Be willing to see what is no longer serving you. Be willing to let go of what you have outgrown, even when it is familiar or painful to release. Do not cling to structures simply because you have invested time, energy or identity into them. Allow the discomfort of transformation to do its work. The more honestly we confront what needs to end, the more space we create for what is ready to begin.
This is not destruction for destruction’s sake. It is the clearing required for renewal. October asks us to surrender what cannot accompany us into the next cycle — so that what truly matters can emerge stronger, cleaner and more aligned.
From Our Community
September was a whirling month, anchored by our Soul’s Journey Uluru Australia. Sacred, powerful and deeply stirring, the land opened something profound within the group — bringing deep-seated fears, ancestral issues and long-held layers of experience to the surface, with the hope that these too could eventually be transmuted into rainbow light.
